Welcome

To Our Patients Regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic
The office has re-open for routine Dental and Hygiene procedures.

Your health and well-being are our highest priority. At all times, we take the highest level of precautions to prevent the spread of all infection, including the new coronavirus. These include steam/pressure autoclaving our instruments, high-level surface disinfection, disposables when possible, eye-protection, face masks, face shields, gowns and gloves and double our suction motors to better eliminate contaminated aerosols that we generate. We are also screening every patient at every appointment for blood pressure and temperature. You can learn more about these protocols, as well as how you can help keep yourself and those around you healthy, from the American Dental Association’s website.

As more of the population follows science-based Public Health Policy recommendations and gets vaccinated against Covid-19 variants, restrictions are gradually able to be lessened.

But, the pandemic is not yet over!

Recognizing that there are still some individuals who are avoiding the Covid vaccines and social distancing recommendations for unvaccinated individuals, we request that you continue to wear a mask / face-covering to enter the office.

We are also still trying to maximize social distancing inside the office, so we request that you continue to call up to the office when you arrive for your appointment so that we can advise you when it is appropriate for you to come up.
We realize that some patients feel that "it's all over" and we can go back to "normal", but this is not the case - we continue to follow CDC guidelines for healthcare facilities for the protection of our Patients, Staff and Community. We greatly appreciate your continued cooperation.

DENTAL UPDATE:

Dr. Gerard is one of the 1st Dentists in the state of Florida to use the brand-new "AquasilUltra Cordless" impression system!
This revolutionary new system means the end of packing retraction cords for almost all crowns and bridges impressions!

If you've ever had a crown made in the past, you may recall when the Dentist or the Assistant had to "pack cords" before taking the final impression. Until now, this has been a very important part of accurately registering the shape of the teeth for the lab to fabricate the new crown or bridge or veneer.

The process involves gently tucking a thin braided thread just under the gum tissue around the tooth being worked on. The thread, or "cord" as we call it, is usually impregnated with a medication that temporarily causes the small blood vessels within the gum tissue to contract. This, in turn, controls any bleeding and causes the gum tissue to temporarily retract away from the tooth slightly, thus allowing the impression material to freely flow around the entire tooth during the impression process, giving a nice, clean impression. The process of placing this cord would normally be fairly uncomfortable for the patient, so, until now, we have usually numbed the area up. The gum tissues usually return back to normal within a few minutes, but can be sore for a day or 2 after the impressions. If extensive work is being performed on many teeth at the same time, there may have been significant post-operative discomfort for several days.

Not only is this process sometimes uncomfortable for the patient, it usually adds a significant amount of chairtime to the appointment: if we are reconstructing someone's entire mouth with crowns and/or fixed bridges, packing cords before taking final impressions can literally add an entire hour or more to the appointment!

This has now all changed!

On October 1, 2013, the Caulk Dentsply Company began shipping the Caulk AquasilUltra Cordless Impression System and Dr. Gerard immediately recognized it as a potiential revolution for the dental industry. By reformulating the impression material and delivering it through a fine tip under pressure, the impression material is able to be placed under the gumline without the need, in most cases, to mechanically displace the gum tissue!

This means if you are having veneers or crowns, no more packing cords! And Dr. Gerard is one of the only Florida Dentists offering this revolutionary system. Please feel free to call the office or click here for more information on the AquasilUltra Cordless Impression system.
